Last Updated: 09/21/2008
Learn how not to pay your electricity company and make them pay you instead, by following an easy step-by-step information guide.

Electricity costs are rising each day and you would agree that at the end of each month, it burns a huge hole in your pocket like it does in mine. Appliances that I couldn't do away with, meant that my bills would never reduce and I was tired of trying to reduce my electricity bills. This is when I turned to alternative energy sources.

These alternative sources of energy helped reduce electricty bills to a great extent but the cost of setting it up was huge. There were numerous energy appartus available in the market that would help you use energy from Solar power or, Wind power. But these cost about $1500 - $2000 to set up and one has to wait for about 10 months before you have recouped your investment.

What is an alternative to it? There were none till about a few months back. But thanks to the "Do-it-yourself" revolution on the internet, easy to follow step-by-step guides are available in plenty, on the internet these days. Pick one of these and you are ready to set-up your own power plant.

But when the point is question is plenty, the problem is deciding which one is the best and gives you value for money? So we thought that we would review the available products in the market and present before you the best ones of them, so that you can decide which one to go for. Also so that you get complete value for money.

These were quite a few products that we reviewed. We did not buy all of them to review them. Instead we spoke to people who had used these products, read through their guides and gathered their opinion on them.
We considered only three prime features in these products when we reviewed them. This is because the rest of the features were pretty much the same in all products and carried less importance when choosing the best product.

  • Availability of materials and cost - Low investment in setting up your power plant
  • Understandability - Ease of understanding
  • Cost of guide - Low initial expenditure
Our Choice  Earth4energy

Rating 9.6/10

Ease of setting up

The unanimously selected best pick of all the products that we reviewed, Earth4energy was much ahead of the competition.

We were so impressed with the guides, the plans and instructions that we decided we should use it first. We constructed our first wind-mill at a cost of less than a $100 and the appliance works great and is being used in pumping water. Amazingly easy to follow instructions made the construction of the equipment a pleasure.

The materials were easily available and cost nothing in comparison to the benefits it offered. What impressed us most was the way the steps were explained in the guide. The guide made it sure that it assumed us as a newbie to all this and set out explaining even the minutest of things in detail, just to ensure that you were not lost in between.

We discussed in great details, if we were giving a star too many in any of the features, but concluded that we had to rate all the features at 5 stars. We wish we could add a few more stars to "Understandability" because we were that impressed.

The cost of the guide was nothing in comparison to the benefits it offered and we found taht you could be up and running with you first power plant in less than $200.00

Earth4energy delivered more than what was expected. The guide exceeded all expectations of ours and we were very impressed with it.

Your own power plant in minutes. In addition to what the guide offered, as a bonus there were instructions on other sources of energy like the solar powered power plant. Also these was section explaining where to get deep cycle batteries for free which meant that you would again be saving on couple of 100 dollars.

2.Home Made Power Plant

As we reviewed the products we kept in mind that our most important criteria was Understandability. We wanted a guide that was easy to understand and helped us in setting up the plant easily. The "Home Made Power Plant" guide lost out on this major criteria and we found that the instructions were a bit too difficult to understand. Hence we had to drop 2 stars of it.

The cost of the guide was pretty much the same and hence did not influence the review.

There was very little mention of places where we could get the materials required to set up the plant which made it difficult for us to procure them.

But for people who have a fair understanding of what a power plant is and how the home made generators work, this guide could come in handy. So we thought we would place it second to our best pick.

3. Home Made Energy

There was not too much to compare amongst the second and the third best products. But like in our second best pick, we felt that the instructions were a bit difficult to understand and could have been made a bit more easier.

There again was very little mention of places from where we could procure the materials thus adding to the woes. This is where both the above products lost out to our best pick.

What was different in this product is the fact that they offered a 60-day money back guarantee in case you were not satisfied, but then that makes me wonder as to what could be the reason why you would be dissatisfied.
